Former F1 driver Mark Webber "Pierre Guthrie is successful in Alpine F1"[F1-Gate.com]

Former Red Bull driver Mark Webber believes Pierre Gasly can be successful in F1 after leaving Red Bull and joining the Alpine F1 team in 2023.

Pierre Gasly has been with the Red Bull program since making his F debut with the Red Bull Toro Rosso junior team in 2017. He then made a brief transition to Red Bull Racing, was relegated to Toro Rosso and has now established himself as an experienced driver for the renamed AlphaTauri F1 team.

This chapter of his career will end at the end of the 2022 season. Subsequently, Pierre Gasly joined the Alpine F1 team and became a partner of Esteban Ocon, forming an All-France team.

Mark Webber, who raced for Red Bull Racing from 2007 to 2013, believes Pierre Gasly could “do it” at Alpine as he prepares to continue F1 without Red Bull.

“I like Pierre, he’s a good guy,” Mark Webber told Channel 4.

“Of course Alpine is a French brand and the local Pierre would be great for them.”

Vacancies for the Alpine F1 Team have been filled, but several lineups for 2023 have yet to be decided, with Williams having vacancies and Haas a chance.

When asked who he thought would race for his former team, Williams, Mark Webber chose F2 driver Logan Sargent.

21-year-old American driver Logan Sargent heads to the final round in Abu Dhabi in third place in F2. He needs to finish the championship in the top 5 to qualify for the Super License.

“I think it’s Logan Sargent,” Mark Webber replied when asked who he thought would take the unit for Williams.

“He’s in Formula 2 this year. Maybe he needs a little introduction to the fans at home.”

“But there are some super licensing challenges around him in terms of points, championship positions in Abu Dhabi.”

One of the drivers who now say their chances to line up on the grid in 2023 are over is Daniel Ricciardo, who will be replaced by Mark Webber’s client Oscar Piastri at McLaren next season.

Daniel Ricciardo was strongly attached to the idea of becoming Mercedes’ reserve driver and Mark Webber believes Ricciardo is interested in that.

“The reserve driver role at Mercedes knows how long Lewis will last[Hamilton]so Daniel will obviously have to make the decision, “Webber said.

“And Mercedes is a very affordable operation, so you might want to consider it.”
