Kochi: Former CPM state committee member Sarojini Balanandan (86) passed away. She is the wife of CPM leader and former Politburo member E. Balanandan. He passed away last night at his daughter’s house in North Paravoor, Ernakulam. He was under treatment for old age related ailments. Later, he was taken to the hospital after feeling unwell the other day, but died. The body, which is kept at Paravur Don Bosco hospital mortuary, will be taken to Kalamasery home tomorrow. Culture will be decided later.

In 1996, he contested for the Legislative Assembly from Aluva, but K. He was defeated by Muhammad Ali. He became a member of the CPM Area Committee in 1978. Then he became the president of Kalamasery panchayat and a member of the party state committee. In 2012, the CPM was expelled from the state committee. Sarojini Balanandan has also worked as a women’s association leader.
