Colombian news media reported that the incident occurred at five in the afternoon on Thursday. Lopez was said to have been kidnapped near his farm in the city of Pesca, Colombia. He was released a few hours later and reported the incident to the local police station.

“They detained him and stole his Ford truck, mobile phone and 800,000 dollars,” Colonel Maria Margarita Mantillová informed the media.

The 29-year-old native of Pesca is currently suspended by the International Cycling Union due to a potential anti-doping violation. The suspension of its activity was announced in July of this year.
