Foreign professionals and local interested parties will host a theater show “LiVe” / Article

In order to acquaint international performing arts professionals, festival organizers, curators, critics and representatives of other creative industries with the diversity of the Latvian theater industry and its artists, theater performances were originally planned to be held in person. However, in response to the current global threat to public health, as well as the restrictions imposed by state and health institutions, the organizers of the show decided to fully adapt the event to the digital environment.

The show includes performances from both state theaters (Daile Theater, Latvian National Theater, Liepāja Theater) and independent theaters (Gertrudes Street Theater, Dirty Deal Teatro, Quadrifrons, Latvian Academy of Culture Theater House “Zirgu pasts” and theater). Esarte).

In parallel with the program of performances, the organizers will also offer the audience “quick presentations” – 15-minute project presentations on nine performances that have been created during the last five years or are still being developed. Project presentations will be attended by playwright Laura Stāšane, film and theater director, playwright Krista Burāne, artist duo IevaKrish, contemporary dance choreographer Jana Jacuka, society “Sansusī”, LCA Eduards Smiļģis Theater , Henrijs Arājs and Klāvs Kristaps Košins.

The program will be complemented by a series of online talks and discussions with an international guest lecturer (Agata Kołacz), TR Warszawa (Poland), Kris Nelson, LIFT Festival (UK), Lisa Gilardino, Samara Editions (Italy)) as well as individual meetings with local directors, playwrights, performers and producers will take place on the Zoom platform. The performances of the 2021 performances are organized by the Latvian New Theater Institute (LJTI) in cooperation with the Latvian Theater Workers’ Union (LTDS), the Latvian branch of the International Association of Theater Critics (AICT / IACT) and Latvian theaters, theater companies and individual artists. Latvian performances “LiVe” and the creation of a digital platform, as well as technical support are financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia and the target program of the State Cultural Capital Fund “KultūrElpa”.
