Day of foreign intelligence of Ukraine

On January 24, Ukraine celebrates Foreign Intelligence Day. It was on January 24, 1919 that the first intelligence unit was created in the Ukrainian People’s Republic. In 2018, this holiday was officially approved by the President of Ukraine.

This day honors the special contribution of officers whose work preserves the sovereignty and independence of our state. Back in the last century, external intelligence helped to protect the citizens of Ukraine from the influence of hostile parties. Something similar to modern foreign intelligence existed even during the times of the Hetmanate (XVII century).

The holiday was introduced to mark the significant contribution of intelligence officers to ensuring the protection of Ukraine’s national interests from external threats.

International Education Day

International Education Day is celebrated on January 24. It was created only in December 2018 during an international conference. It discussed various problems of modern education and was held in Brussels. Representatives of the African country of Nigeria proposed to create a holiday. The idea was as follows: every year on January 24, to hold events on a certain topic related to the problems of modern education.

The idea of ​​an African country was supported by 58 member states of the conference. A corresponding resolution was drawn up in support of quality equal education that would be available to every person regardless of their nationality, gender and social status. The principles of the UN state that everyone should have access to quality education. Education helps a person become literate, gain self-confidence, and ensure well-being for himself and his family in the future.

International Women’s Sports Day

International Women’s Sports Day was introduced in France and supported by the Ministry of Sports and the State Secretariat for Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination.

The problem of sexualization of women in sports and violence against them turned out to be too acute, so it was decided to use certain measures to create a better standard of living and health of female athletes.

What a religious holiday today

January 24 in the church calendar is Saint Xenia’s Day. Xenia was a saint who lived in the 5th century. She was born in Rome in the family of a senator and was named Eusebius. Since childhood, she loved God and wanted to dedicate her life to Him. However, her parents wanted to remove her for a wealthy groom. To avoid marriage, the girl secretly left her home with two maids and sailed away on a ship.

She changed her name to Xenia, which means “traveler”, and traveled to various places, helping the poor and sick. She founded a nunnery in Milas, where she lived until the end of her life. Ksenia became a deaconess there. She was famous for her restraint, prayer, humility and miracles. She died in prayer, and a golden wreath with a cross appeared above the monastery.
