For the second time in Cēsis the concert of opera stars Gala will take place – a tribute to Andrejs Žagars / Article / LSM.lv

On October 10, the concert “Antonenko, Kinča, Švēde and LNSO” will take place in Vidzeme Concert Hall “Cēsis”. Friends – Andrejs Žagars ”. The concert will feature Latvian opera stars – soprano Liene Kinča, tenor Alexander Antonenko, mezzo-soprano Zanda Švēde and the young, promising baritone Rinalds Kandalincevs, as well as the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by the temperamental Italian maestro Sesto Quatriini.

The concert will feature music by Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Peter Tchaikovsky, Kamil Sensans and other composers.

“The concert organized by the Andrejs Žagars Foundation will take place in Cēsis again, and we hope that it will become a beautiful tradition in the city of Andrejs childhood and youth. The content of Andrejs Žagars’ life was high-quality, inspiring art and educated, long-lived people, therefore we consider it our duty to increase and chant these values, ”says Artūrs Maskats, a representative of Andrejs Žagars Cultural Support and Development Foundation.

Alexander Antonenko

The concert will feature internationally acclaimed soloists – tenor Alexander Antonenko and soprano Liene Kinča, whose careers began and developed rapidly at the Latvian National Opera when it was conducted by Andrejs Žagars. Currently, the singers’ performances can be enjoyed in the world’s leading opera houses. There will also be an opportunity to hear the performance of two new opera artists. Mezzo-soprano Zanda Švēde has been a soloist at the Frankfurt Opera since 2018, making her debut at the Latvian National Opera in 2017 with the title role in Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen, while Rinalds Kandalincevs was nominated for the Grand Music Award for outstanding performance throughout the year. In addition to his debut on the White House stage opera “Bohema”, the singer has also participated in Italo Montemeci’s opera “Magic” and Rugero Leonkavallo’s opera “Pajaci”, as well as in Imants Kalniņš’s opera “I Play, I Dance”. The singer himself especially notes his participation in Richard Dubra’s opera “Suiti Saga”.

The organizers of the concert note that Andrejs Žagars (1958 – 2019) has always set the pursuit of the highest goals and support for excellence as his motto – this characterizes his long-term work as the director of opera, during which the Latvian National Opera became part of European and world opera houses. while working in the foundation he founded, thanks to which the Latvian audience could get acquainted with the performances of such world-famous artists as Robert Wilson and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and the concerts of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Andris Nelsons.
