Saudi Arabia – If in previous years the replacement of the kiswah or the cover of the Kaaba cloth was carried out every 9th of Dzulhijjah when the pilgrims were wukuf in Arafah, the year for the first time the replacement of the kiswah was carried out on the 1st of Muharram.
The cost of replacing the 850 kg cover cloth costs up to SAR 25 million or the equivalent of Rp. 100 billion.
As many as 200 Saudi Arabian technicians and artists are involved in the process of making the kiswah. The materials used consist of 760 kg of Italian Silk, 120 kg of Gold, and 100 kg of silver from Germany.
By order of King Salman, from now on students will be replaced on the 1st of Muharram every year. Meanwhile, the washing of the Kaaba will be carried out on the 15th of Muharram. The new Kaaba covering will be installed until the next year’s Hajj season.(awy)
