Footprints of Giant, Meat-eating Dinosaurs Found on British Coast

Jakarta

Dinosaur footprints belonging to “a giant creature from the Jurassic period” were found on the coast of Yorkshire, England.

The prints, said to be the largest excavation in the area, were found by archaeologist Marie Woods.

“I originally went to collect shells for dinner, but I was totally distracted by this animal!” he wrote on Twitter.

Experts believe the traces are the legacy of a giant, flesh-eating dinosaur whose body reached nine meters.

Woods said he collected the clams and was surprised to find a large three-finger print.

“After seeing it, I didn’t collect a lot of shells,” he said.

After his discovery, at an undisclosed location, Woods contacted specialists including paleontologist Dr. Dean Lomax, author of the book. Dinosaurs of the British Isles.

‘Conditions are fragile’

He described his findings as “truly gigantic creatures from the Jurassic period”.

Marie Woods also said they were “the largest theropod footprints ever found in Yorkshire.”

The footprints belonged to a giant flesh-eating dinosaur, “possibly Megalosaurus, which lived between 164 and 175 million years ago,” said Dr. Lomax.

He added that Woods’ discovery was actually a “rediscovery”, as part of the fossil collector, Rob Taylor, discovered in November 2020.

However, although Taylor posted photos of his findings on a Facebook group dedicated to the existence of the Yorkshire fossils, it was not fully revealed at the time and was not fully aware of their importance, said Dr Lomax.

A plan is currently under preparation to restore the dinosaur toe prints, which Woods said were in “fragile condition” and at risk of being “washed away”.

If the recovery process is successful, the findings will be exhibited at the Rotunda Museum in Scarborough, England.
