“The clubs think the idea is good” – will the Premier League end in Australia?

Due to the corona virus, football in Europe is largely at a standstill. In France and the Netherlands, the season even ended early due to security measures.

It is also currently not possible to play in the English Premier League. The virus has also spread on the island – when and if the season can be ended is still completely unclear. In order to prevent a termination, several options are currently being examined.

This option was also discussed:

As the “Sun” reports, it is even possible that the rest of the season will be held in Perth, Australia. British football agent Gary Williams is said to be working intensively on this plan. The “Sun” reports that Williams presented the following proposal to the Premier League:

  • All 20 teams are flown to Perth. The airlines would be delighted and available.
  • All teams are accommodated in their own hotel and initially isolated – if necessary – for two weeks.
  • The games will take place at several top venues in the city. Either without or with a limited number of local fans.
  • The number of medical tests is reduced, possibly to a total of two instead of two per week.
  • No police are needed in Australia to monitor the games.
  • No further trips and accommodations need to be planned. The teams are in the same hotel all the time.
  • Families should be allowed to fly to Perth towards the end of the season to get an urgently needed break in a safe place.
  • The TV broadcasts are also unproblematic, the playing times are adjusted to the English day.

There are four large stadiums in Perth where the remaining 92 games are to be played: the Optus Stadium, the Perth Oval, the Joondalup Arena and the WACA cricket stadium.

If you believe Gary Williams, this plan should have been well received by the Premier League. «I spoke to the clubs and they think the idea is good. I also spoke to the government here. They are thrilled, we are talking to each other again this week. »

The Australian Senator from Perth, Glenn Sterle, would not be averse to relocating to the Premier League. “It pains me to see what’s going on in England. We want to help. This is the center of Australia’s sports universe. We have nice weather and fresh air. That would be ideal. In addition, we have almost no new corona cases. »

In Australia, 6822 people have tested positive since the coronavirus pandemic began. 95 people died from Covid-19 disease. (dab)

Football and hockey – the state cannot finance the millionaires’ hobby

Our football and ice hockey can easily get through the virus crisis without additional government support. A polemic against a fall.

Our sport – primarily football and ice hockey in the top two leagues – has entered its greatest economic crisis in history. The state is now able to “feed” the economy with billions through the crisis. In addition, there is the possibility of relieving the wage accounting through the short-time work regulation. Professional sport organized in corporations also benefits from this.

Sport has become systemically important, so …
