A man tested positive on Tuesday May 5 at Covid-19 after participating in a funeral in late April in the small village of Vergt in the Dordogne, says France Blue. Since then, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) has screened a hundred people in its professional and family circle.

In total, eight individuals are positive among the first 40 results. These infected people have none of the symptoms of the virus. They are at home in quarantine.

According to France Bleu, the family had nevertheless respected the limit of twenty people at the church set up during the confinement period. However, other people joined the ceremony and ended up at the funeral home and for the family reunion. People are said to have come from Portugal and Switzerland, reports the regional newspaper Sud Ouest. The search for contact cases overflowed from the family and particularly affected a small strawberry business, EURL Cantelaube, located in Cendrieux, in the town of Val de Louyre and Caudeau. Two staff members present at the funeral have been tested and are awaiting their results. The town hall of Eglise-Neuve-de-Vergt and nurses from the Bergerac home hospital service were also screened.

The prefect of the Dordogne, Frédéric Perissat confirmed this Friday that 103 people had to be screened after the discovery of this first patient. For the prefecture, this is “a case of loosening of containment”. “This is really an illustration of what we do not want to live in the coming weeks,” said the prefect.
