The waiting lists in healthcare are far from being eliminated and there is a fear that both a corona and flu wave is approaching us. Experts therefore argue in favor of vaccinating children against the flu as well. They will discuss this on Monday afternoon.
In the United Kingdom, children are already getting the flu shot for exactly the same reason. The fear of overcrowded hospitals is still there, and children are often the spreaders of viruses without making them sick themselves. A flu wave on top of a corona wave tries to prevent care with a flu shot for children.
‘It’s getting exciting’
“You don’t know what’s coming our way this winter. If corona starts to play up again and a violent flu wave comes over it, it will be very exciting,” says general practitioner Marieke Verlaan in Good morning Netherlands. “The most important group to receive the flu shot will still be the group that suffers from chronic diseases and the elderly.”
