In less than a week, the price of gasoline rose an average of 44 cents a gallon. In most gas stations in South Florida, the regular gas is already over $4 and several are close to $5, something that has not been registered since 2008.
“Unfortunately, more price increases are coming and drivers may soon start seeing record prices at gas stations,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group.
“Fuel prices are being dragged higher by skyrocketing oil prices, which are rising in response to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Sanctions and regulations against Russia have limited its ability to sell its oil on the global market, thus intensifying global supply concerns in what was already a very tight market due to the pandemic,” he explained.

There are ways in which drivers can save fuel, here is a list of recommendations from some specialists:
- Drive more smoothly, which can make your car’s engine run more efficiently. Don’t speed or race from stoplight to stoplight.
- Compare prices. Depending on where you live, there may be large or small price variations between service stations. And even if the difference in price per gallon may only be a few cents, it can still add up to hundreds of dollars per year.
- There are apps like GasBuddy, Gas Guru, and AAA TripTik, which you can use to find the best prices along your route.
- Some loyalty programs, which many major gas station chains have, offer discounts and most are free.
- Share trips with friends, family or trusted neighbors who have the same destination or at least very close. Leaving the car at home for at least one day can make a difference.
- Maintain the air pressure in the vehicle’s tires at the recommended values and do not have the car loaded that makes it heavier.
