The Municipality of La Florida made a complaint to the Public Ministry, for alleged trafficking of regulated drugs. This since more than 360 kilograms of psychotropics valued at $ 60 million, were stolen from the municipal pharmacy.
The fact dates from 2018, where through a Comptroller’s requirement Information on the storage of the medicines was requested from administrative officials of the pharmacy, who refused to hand it over.
That is why the municipality gave the information to the Public Ministry as well as a video where two pharmaceutical officials appear supposedly recalling drugs in luxury cars.
The mayor of the commune, Rodolfo Cárter, pointed out that through this complaint, it will be possible to investigate drug trafficking not only in your commune, but in any other public entity with these irregular practices.
Matías Muñoz, executive secretary of the Chilean Association of Popular Pharmacies, said that the most affected are those patients who, due to the lack of stock they cannot access their medicines.
According to the municipality, the drugs are being sold in informal markets and free fairs.
Beatriz Arteaga, academic of pharmacology and director of the School of Nursing University of Las Américas, warned the dangers of self-medicating, without medical prescriptions.
In parallel to the investigation, the municipality initiated an internal investigation to administratively punish those who, despite not committing a crime, are possible witnesses to the robbery. Also, according to the mayor’s office, the situation will not affect the stock of drugs required by residents.
