Flooded Tent Houses in Cawang where there are no contractors

Jakarta

Residential area of residents on Jalan Taman Harapan RT 15 RW 03, Cawang, East Jakarta, often flooded. The owners of the tenement houses around the site have had to swallow the bitter pill because their rented houses are often affected by flooding, so there are not many interested people.

monitoring detikcom, at the location, Sunday (26/2/2023) at 10.36 WIB, it was seen that a number of rented houses located on the banks of the Ciliwung River were uninhabited. It can be seen that the residual water from the flood is still inundating the rented house and the wall paint is peeling off.

The condition of the rented house also looks worrying because the floor is full of thick mud with a bad smell. The mud is also mixed with garbage which gets involved when the flood begins to recede.

One of the landlords, Wanti (30), said that he used to own three row houses. However, he decided to close two of his row houses to prevent the walls from collapsing due to water seepage.

“Because it was quiet, the two were closed for fear of water getting in and breaking it,” Wanti said when met detikcom at the location, Sunday (26/2/2023).

Even though there was one row house left, the building was never filled. This is because the community is reluctant to contract in that location because they know the location is in a flood-prone area.

“That one doesn’t exist contract for fear of being swept away by the floods,” he said.

Meanwhile, Secretary of RT 15 RW 03, Imron (40), said this condition had been going on for a long time. In fact, the majority of tenement houses have been abandoned due to flooding.

Even so, some residents still choose to live in rented houses on the banks of the Ciliwung River.

“There are several houses that are no longer occupied. There are no rented houses for a long time placed because it often floods,” Imron told detikcomSunday (26/2/2023).

“So this old rent is left Just like that same owner. But there are also a few residents who still contract,” Imran continued.
