Due to the efforts of the Quintana Roo Tourist Promotion Council (CPTQR), the business sector and the Municipal Tourism Directorate, for the first quarter of this 2021, three new flights from the United States will be arriving in Cozumel from Frontier airlines and American Airlines.
After six years, Frontier will reactivate its flights from Chicago and Denver to the island, and American Airlines will implement a new flight from Philadelphia, all with a weekly frequency, said Pedro Joaquín Delbouis, municipal president of Cozumel.
He also highlighted that the strengthening of air connectivity in Cozumel and the consequent increase in the tourist influx will bring benefits for the families’ economy.
Pedro Joaquín Delbouis recalled that these actions are carried out jointly between the municipal, state and federal authorities, coordinated with the International Airport, airlines, hoteliers, the health sector and the American Consulate.
For his part, the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Pedro Hermosillo López, emphasized that with the three flights that will be reactivated soon, they will add 10 routes from the United States to this destination, for which the awareness campaign in maritime terminals and at the airport on sanitary measures such as the mandatory use of face masks, healthy distance, capacity limits and sanitary filters.
“With the application of Antigen and PCR tests on the island, tourists, especially from the United States, have the guarantee of returning to their place of origin with a negative result of Covid-19 and thus we will strengthen the image of a safe destination and reliable for all our visitors, ”said Hermosillo López.
Likewise, Hermosillo López highlighted that this first long weekend of 2021 (from January 29 to February 1) more than 680 passengers arrived, only with the Volaris airline, which maintains a daily route from Mexico City. (Mexico: 3 long weekends and 3 vacation periods this year)
He said that on average a week, the island reports 70 entry and exit air operations, which represent the arrival of 2,600 passengers, in addition to the nearly 2,500 visitors who cross by sea every day.
