Fleeing Haarlem motorists arrested for kidnapping children | Inland

When the man and the woman, with both children in the car, drove in the vicinity of Velsen, their car was checked by the police. The check revealed that the vehicle was being searched.

A chase ensued when the driver tried to run away. The suspect was driving at high speed on the N208 in the direction of Haarlem. At the intersection with Orionweg, a collision occurred in which the suspect drove on. Eventually he got himself stuck at the bicycle tunnel at the Rijklof van Goensplein, but when the police arrived the car was empty.

The police found the two and the children (aged 8 and 12) in the immediate vicinity. The man and woman were arrested and taken to the police station for questioning. They are suspected of having been withdrawn from parental authority. The children are transferred to the care framework.

The driver appeared to test positive for the use of drugs.
