Flash floods in Sukanagara Cianjur, hundreds of houses submerged

Flood flash floods affected 5 villages in Sukanagara district, Regency Cianjur, West Java. Hundreds of houses submerged by waters up to 1 meter high.

Reported detikjabarOn Friday (12/16/2022), Sukanagara Sub-district Chief Robby Erlangga said that the flood that occurred at 5.00 PM WIB was caused by the overflowing of the Cibala River. This is because the area has been affected by heavy rains since 3pm WIB.

“The flood happened around 5pm WIB. Indeed, the river often overflows, but this is the worst thing. The overflowing of the river causes flash flooding,” he said.

The flood submerged hundreds of houses in 5 villages namely Sukanagara village, Sukamekar village, Sulaksana village, Sukarame village and Gunungsari village.

“Five villages have been affected, towns crossed by the Cibala river. The worst case is Sukanagara village, the water level is up to 1 meter. The number of submerged houses is still being recorded, but it is estimated that it will reach hundreds of houses,” he said.

The homes most severely inundated by the floods, Robby said, were those in the river basin. He said the floods have not only submerged the settlements but also the Cianjur-Sindangbarang main road.
