Fivio Foreign discusses the dangers of drill with the mayor of New York

Several rappers including Fivio Foreign met Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, to discuss the dangerousness of the drill…

A few days ago, Eric Adamsthe mayor of New York, spoke about the dramatic consequences caused by the drill, explaining that he wanted to ensure that this musical current is prohibited on platforms such as YouTube, Instagram or even Facebook because she advocated violence. He said in this regard:I had no idea what drill was, but I called my son and he sent me some videos and it’s alarming. […] We removed Trump from Twitter. Yet we allow music, the display of guns and violence. We allow this to remain on these sites.” After his words, Fivio Foreign – who had already spoken on this subject– had expressed his desire to exchange with the 62-year-old politician and former police officer. And it was done since he and several other drillers including Maino or B-Lovee, met him this Tuesday, February 15 in order to discuss with a calm head this theme which appears divisive today, and is controversial in New York.

A constructive exchange

On Tuesday evening, Maino shared a video on Instagram, in which he revealed that he had met the mayor. “We talked a lot about rap drill, drill music in New York, the link between violence and this culture“, did he declare. “And I just wanted to create a conversation with the mayor…so he could have a real perspective and a real understanding of what drill is, so we could have a real dialogue and really start making things happen. On Wednesday, February 16, during a press conference on his preliminary budget for 2023, Eric Adams was asked about his meeting with the rappers the day before.. “It was very interesting”, he launched, before confiding that the latter thought that he wanted to make war on the drill, which is, according to his words, not at all his objective. “I explained to them what I really meant. That violent people who use drill to brag about the people they’ve killed and list the people they’re planning to kill, that’s the problem. They heard me and we will put something in place in the next few days to fix this problem. It was a great conversation. I was happy they were there”. A great initiative that shows that hip-hop and public institutions can also sometimes go hand in hand. All the same, it remains to be seen how things will develop…
