Five Flemish residential care centers are currently dealing with an outbreak, while the majority of their residents have already received a second injection.

In Anzegem and Bruges there is an outbreak with the South African variant, in Lebbeke and Glabbeek the British variant, and probably also in Lommel.
These are always relatively small outbreaks, says Joris Moonens, spokesperson for Care and Health. In Lommel, these include new residents who had not yet been vaccinated.
This suggests that the vaccine helps to prevent infections, although Zorg en Health believes it is still early to draw major conclusions.
The disease burden is also mild for most infected residents. Some residents had to be hospitalized. There were also deaths, but according to Moonens it is still unclear whether those residents actually died of covid-19.
