The North region also remains the one with the highest number of deaths (809), followed by the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (412), the Center (245), the Algarve and the Azores (both with 15) and the Alentejo, which registers a death, advances the report of the epidemiological situation, with data updated until 24:00 on Tuesday.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira remains unregistered.

According to data from the Directorate-General for Health, 757 fatalities are women and 740 are men.

Of the registered deaths, 1,013 were over 80 years old, 285 were between 70 and 79 years old, 131 between 60 and 69, 48 between 50 and 59, and 17 between 40 and 49. There are two registered deaths between 20 and 29 years and one in the age group between 30 and 39 years.

The clinical characterization of confirmed cases indicates that 417 patients are admitted to hospitals, 23 more than on Tuesday (+ 5.8%), of which 70 are in Intensive Care Units (plus five, + 7.7%).

DGS data state that the municipality of Lisbon is the one with the highest number of cases of infection by the new coronavirus (2,751), followed by Sintra (1,754), Vila Nova de Gaia (1,592), Porto (1,414), Loures ( 1,331), Matosinhos (1,292) and Braga (1,256).

Since January 1, 344,217 suspected cases have been recorded, of which 1,724 are awaiting test results.

There are 306,893 cases in which the results of the tests were negative, says the DGS, adding that the number of recovered patients rose to 21,742 (408 more).

DGS also records 30,398 contacts under surveillance by health authorities.

Of the total infected, 20,193 are women and 15,407 are men.

The age group most affected by the disease is from 40 to 49 years old (5,982), followed by the age group from 50 to 59 years old (5,795) and people aged between 30 and 39 years old (5,513).

There are still 4,927 patients between 20 and 29 years old, 4,710 over 80 years old, 3,802 between 60 and 69 years old, and 2,734 between 70 and 79 years old.

DGS also records 850 cases of children up to nine years old and 1,262 young people aged 10 to 19 years.

According to DGS, 39% of patients positive for the new coronavirus have cough symptoms, 29% fever, 21% muscle pain, 20% headache, 15% generalized weakness and 11% breathing difficulty.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 411,000 deaths and infected more than 7.2 million people worldwide.

More than 3.2 million were considered cured by health officials.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
