“Most likely it is botulism,” the service warns on Twitter. “Shallow, stagnant water heats up quickly and that promotes the development of the botulism bacteria.”
According to Omroep Brabant, three of the deceased dogs swam in water on the Vrachelse Heide near Oosterhout on Thursday. Friday, vets had to put two more dogs to sleep.
In addition to Oosterhout, botulism has been found in puddles near De Roestelberg in Kaatsheuvel and Bosch en Duin in Udenhout.
