MEXICO.- In an atmosphere full of emotion and enthusiasm, the 1st Dominican Film Exhibition in Mexico Lente Quisqueya was held at the National Cinematheque in Mexico City, organized by the embassy of the Dominican Republic in that country, in collaboration with the National Cineteca of Mexico and the DG Cinema.
The ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Mexico, María Isabel Castillo Báez, explained that the objective of the exhibition is to publicize the quality and dynamism of the Dominican film industry, as well as the marked impact it is having internationally.
“Our productions progressively reach more international destinations, win bigger and better spaces in renowned film festivals and do so through cinema that does not deny its roots, that highlights Dominican characters and that tells stories that project Dominicanness in all its colors. cultural,” he declared.
The event featured the outstanding participation of Alejandro Pelayo Rangel, director of the National Cineteca, on behalf of the Secretary of Culture of Mexico; María Novaro, director general of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE), and Leticia Huijara, president of the Mexican Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMACC).
At the opening event, the film Carajita was screened, directed by Ulises Porra and Silvina Schnicer, a work nominated for Best Ibero-American Film in this year’s edition of the Ariel Awards awarded by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Mexico (AMACC). .
The exhibition’s programming also includes an exciting selection of Dominican films that reflect the richness of Dominican cinema: El Naturalista Isleño, Malpaso, El Hombre que Cuida, Liborio, Reinbou, Miriam Miente and Vals de Santo Domingo.
