Fireworks shows in Hilversum and Amsterdam have also been canceled due to strong winds | Interior

Hilversum and Amsterdam canceled their fireworks displays on Saturday night as stormy winds are forecast. Previously, Zoetermeer, Apeldoorn and The Hague, among others, already attracted disconnect the fireworks shows scheduled at the turn of the year.

In Hilversum, the shows would take place at 7.30pm and midnight. The rest of the New Year’s program will also be cancelled. This was decided by the municipality on Saturday morning in consultation with the organisation.

Mayor Gerhard van der Top is disappointed, but according to him there was no other choice. “Of course it was great to be able to organize the traditional central firework displays on the market square again after two long corona years to celebrate the New Year together with the people of Hilversum.”

But he thinks the risk is too great given the bad weather conditions. “Safety comes first”.

The fireworks and drone show at the A’DAM Tower in Amsterdam North has also been canceled in consultation with the municipality. The organization is considering whether the show can be moved to another time.

In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, it will be decided on Saturday whether the shows will continue. In both cities, Environmental Services are evaluating whether it is safe to continue the fireworks displays.

“As soon as this decision is known, the municipality will communicate it as soon as possible. As the decision will probably not be made until late in the evening, we advise people to keep an eye on the news,” says the municipality of Amsterdam.
