firefighters fear resumptions with the wind

After a Sunday of all dangers on the fire front in the Loire, firefighters expect a complicated start to the week.

On Sunday, with scorching temperatures and a steady wind, around ten fire outbreaks mobilized the personnel of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis) of the Loire, but also of the Rhône, as well as a helicopter civil security to help with field reconnaissance.

Sunday evening, the major fires (Boisset-Saint-Priest, Neaux, Roche-la-Molière) were all under control. But the firefighters remained on watch all night, to avoid resumptions.

Wind gusts at 40 or 50 km/h at the end of the day

It is their fear again this Monday. If the outside temperatures will experience a slight change with maximums announced at 34°C for the Loire, the wind will return throughout the day.

At the end of the afternoon, gusts of 40 to 50 km/h are announced.

This Monday, firefighters remain on the sites where the fire started on Sunday. In each zone, one or two machines are present.

In total, more than twenty firefighters are mobilized this Monday in Saint-Romain-les-Atheux, Roche-la-Moliere, Neaux, Boisset-Saint-Priest and the two areas where the fire started Chambon Feugerolles.

Up-to-date safety instructions

The safety instructions communicated by Sdis on Sunday therefore remain valid, to facilitate the work of the emergency services:

– avoid walks around forests

– alert the fire brigade by calling 18 or 112 in the event of a fire starting

– in case of fire, move away with your back to the wind and cover your face with a damp cloth

– do not obstruct traffic lanes to facilitate the passage of emergency services.
