Fired after boss sees ‘sick’ employee on television at European Championship match Abroad

It was a unique opportunity when a friend of Nina Farooqi (37) from Ilkley offered her last-minute tickets on Wednesday to attend the semi-final of the European Championship between England and Denmark at Wembley. Unfortunately, the woman had to work that night. The woman thought she would solve the hitch with a phone call to her boss to say she was sick.

The next morning she was taking the first train back home when she got a call from that same boss. He called to say she didn’t have to come to work. He had seen her on television in the stands of the stadium.

‘little regret’

“I honestly admitted why I did that,” she told The Daily Telegraph. “But they didn’t understand. I kind of regret it because nobody wants to be fired. But on the other hand, I would have regretted not going to the game. So I would do it again in a heartbeat.”
