Fire in historic Stock Exchange Building in Copenhagen: “Half the building burned down, including iconic dragon tower and Great Hall”

Several hundred works of art are said to have been saved. They were initially taken to the Danish National Archives, but from there they would be taken to other places.

One of the most important works hanging (or hanging) there is ‘From the Copenhagen Stock Exchange’ by the Danish painter Peder Severin Krøyer from 1895. The painting depicts 50 representatives of the Danish business community in the Great Hall of the Stock Exchange Building.

The painting could be saved, but it took some effort. The painting is so large that the movers had to do their utmost to get it through the doors and into the truck. “When he succeeded, there was a big applause,” reports the Danish channel TV2.

In addition to the works of art, a number of mirrors, chandeliers, clocks and other items could also be saved. There is not yet a comprehensive overview of what could be saved and what was lost. But the biggest loss is the burned part of the building itself, it sounds.
