An unfortunate event was recorded at dawn this Saturday on Avenida del Mar de La Serena. This is a fire that affected the restaurant “La Tabla”, a renowned local on the coastline located on Avenida del Mar with Los Perales.
The incident would have been reported at around 02:40 hours. Three units attended the place, the 2nd, 5th and 6th La Serena Firefighters Company. “Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters realized that it was a fire in the Restaurant La Tabla, which was in its phase of free combustion, that is, with an uncontrolled fire,” said La Serena Fire Commander Ricardo Bruna.
Despite the work of firefighters, the restaurant caught fire in its entirety. In addition, they assured that there was no risk of spread due to the characteristics of the premises.
To date, work continues on the investigative process to determine the origin and cause of the incident, so no circumstance is ruled out until the investigation is completed.
Difficult scenario
Undoubtedly, the tourism-gastronomic sector has suffered the effects, not only of the pandemic, but also of the crisis that would begin in October last year with the social outbreak, so that from this area they agree that this fire represents a tragedy considering that context.
For this very reason, the signs of support were not long in coming. The president of the Chamber of Tourism, Patricio Araya indicated that “we deeply regret what happened and we give our support to Andrés Bakulic, owner of this restaurant and also to his workers.”
Also from the Guild Association of the Hotel and Gastronomic Industry of Chile, Hotelga Región de Coquimbo, Marcos Carrasco described this event as “a tragedy that affects one of our associates and that represents a loss of many years of work,” he said.
“At this minute we make ourselves available as a sector, towards the family and workers, in terms of being able to organize any activity that can help them to put their business back together, let them know that we are with them,” said Marcos Carrasco.
For its part, from the group of businessmen from Barrio del Mar, an associative project that brings together gastronomic companies in the area, they regretted the fact and thanked the firefighters for their help, adding that “in misfortune we are more united than ever (…) Between all of us we will always support each other to get ahead, because that is how it is done, because that is how it should be and because that is how we will continue working ”, they published on their networks.
