The beer, available only in half-litre cans, is called ‘Otan’, which in Finnish means something like ‘I’ll take some beer’. In reverse order there is NATO, the English abbreviation for NATO.
The brewer gives free rein to his imagination because the beer is said to ‘taste like safety, with a hint of freedom’. Finland borders Russia for more than 1000 kilometers. Yet the brewer remains calm. “It is not in the Finnish nature to panic. We remain calm and have a beer, but we are here with our brewery under the arm of the Russian beer,” said the brewer from Savonlinna in Eastern Finland.
Finland and neighboring Sweden want to join NATO following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
