Fines and arrest when checking against nuisance on Zeeland beach

In an attempt to prevent the nuisance of youth at the beach of Dishoek in Zeeland, the police patrolled the area last night and checked bicycle paths. One person was arrested and fourteen fines were handed out to cyclists and moped riders, the police reported.

The control is part of the measurements which the municipality of Veere, which includes Dishoek, and the police are taking to tackle the nuisance on the beach. Recently, many complaints have been received about groups of young people who use alcohol and drugs and commit vandalism.

Among other things, officers issued fines for driving a moped or moped on an unlit cycle path. They also issued fines for bicycles without lights, riding a moped without a helmet, riding a moped through a pedestrian zone and riding a moped with a suspended license plate.

Drank too much

An 18-year-old woman was arrested after refusing to participate in a breath analysis, reports Broadcasting Zeeland. The woman was approached by officers because she was driving a moped on an unlit bicycle path.

Because it was suspected that she had been drinking, they wanted to perform a breath analysis on her, but she resisted. In the end it worked out at the police station, and then it turned out that she had had too much to drink. Her driver’s license was revoked and she was banned from driving for six hours and fined.
