Fine of BGN 100,000 for yellow stones broken during repair – Company – Bulgaria – NOVA News

Fine of BGN 100,000 for yellow paving stones broken during refurbishment works in the center of Sofia. The fine was imposed on the contractor after a video uploaded to social media. It shows a worker using a hammer to split several paving stones in half to fit the pavement.

This is the new section, where the paving stones are currently being rearranged – around the monument to “Tsar Osvoboditel”.

The Trace company, which takes care of the repair, explained to NOVA that the workers had been instructed not to damage entire pavers, but to use small pieces of the municipal reserve for their installation. After the case, the HR employee in question has already been removed from the site and the company hopes the case is unique.

Tension for the repair of yellow paving stones in front of the National Assembly (OVERVIEW)

The yellow ceramic floors have the status of cultural value. Therefore, damaging them constitutes a violation of the law on cultural heritage.

The video was uploaded to the “Save Sofia” civilian platform. The footage shows a worker breaking two yellow paving stones into smaller pieces to lay out a narrow stretch of paving.

“His explanation in this case is that a cobblestone that was on the underside was disturbed, broken, it’s just that the record is visible from the top, which is healthy,” explained the head of the site, Krasimir Tsoklinov. .

However, from the municipality, the footage shows the destruction of a perfectly healthy pavement, even though the workers were provided with stocks of smaller damaged pieces.

“In this case, the craftsman just had to go 10 meters away and choose one of these pieces of flooring, which over the years has been broken by the load of cars or other reasons, we also have such pieces in stock. They also have those in the site “, said Eng. Angel Jorgov, deputy mayor of the metropolitan municipality.

The contractor of the object has a certificate that gives it the right to repair objects of cultural value, the municipality said.

“All workers should be educated, supervised, whether it be Saturday or Sunday. It is absolutely unacceptable,” Djorgov believes.

Trace Group says all of its workers are trained in advance on how to handle pavers.

“It is forbidden and they have never been allowed to beat them like that with a hammer. We explained ourselves, we tried to somehow instill it in their heads. Here it is already in the conscience of the people themselves. I hope it is the only one. We haven’t seen any others, “said Krasimir Tsoklinov.

“The cut pavers with flexible and broken pavers were already two weeks ago, when we first reported the poor quality of the repair. Everyone can take a walk and see that these are by no means isolated cases of brutally broken paving stones with a hammer, “said Boris Bonev.

“Save Sofia” insisted that the company’s certificate for work with cultural values be immediately removed and the fine of BGN 100,000 increased.

“Firstly, the municipality has fined the company twice the maximum possible fine. And secondly, this is a fine for damaged cultural heritage, not for poor repairs. There are no fines yet and we wonder how long” , said Boris Bonev.
