  • The former Bulgarian prime minister has difficulty forming a coalition. With this headline, the British publication “Financial Times” commented on the results of the elections in Bulgaria, produced on Sunday, reports BTA.

The publication states that the center-right party COAT OF ARMSGERB is a populist, conservative and pro-European center-right political party in of the former prime minister Boyko BorisovBoyko Borisov

Boyko Metodiev Borisov is the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria. He was born on June 13, 1959 is leading the fourth parliamentary elections in Bulgaria over the past year and a half, but the party has failed to secure the majority needed to form a ruling coalition in the poorest EU country.

What are the possible coalitions for future governance?

The publication lists which parties enter parliament and what percentage they receive COAT OF ARMSCOAT OF ARMSGERB is a populist, conservative and pro-European center-right political party in and the runner-up “Let’s continue the changeLet's continue the changeKiril Petkov and Asen Vassilev presented their political project “Let’s continue the change”“of the former Prime Minister Kiril PetkovKiril PetkovKirill Petkov Petkov was born in 1980. He is one of the founders of the Center for Economic. The newspaper adds that PP and other leading political forces have ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition with COAT OF ARMSCOAT OF ARMSGERB is a populist, conservative and pro-European center-right political party inwhich increases the chances of new elections in the near future.

Borissov, who after a decade in power was ousted in 2021 following mass protests against corruption, presented himself as the one who could lead Bulgaria in its political and economic crisis. Under Petkov’s rule, the country abruptly turned against Russia, which was traditionally his close partner, the newspaper said.

The publication quoted Borisov as saying that “it is important that the country continues to follow the Euro-Atlantic course, so that the Russians also respect us. They like those who are strong, categorical and clear”. Borissov also wants to bring the country into the euro area, implement judicial reform and continue to diversify gas supplies from Russia.

Petkov, a pro-Western Harvard graduate who vowed to fight corruption, lost a vote of no confidence in July over EU budget and enlargement disputes after seven months in office leading up to Sunday’s elections.

The newspaper also notes that the newly formed “Bulgarian Rise” party has crossed the threshold to enter parliament and the pro-Russian “Vazrazhdane” party has doubled its support to around 10%.

If a viable coalition is not formed, President Rumen Radev could continue with the interim governments and set a date for new elections in a few months. However, political instability will cause further economic damage to the country and delay its goal of joining the eurozone in 2024, analysts warn.

The newspaper also quotes Dimitar Bechev, a lecturer at the Oxford School of Global and Territorial Studies, who describes the election results as a “dead end”, but who believes that one of the solutions to this deadlock is a “cabinet of experts” dominated by COAT OF ARMSCOAT OF ARMSGERB is a populist, conservative and pro-European center-right political party in and the centrist party of ethnic Turkish DPS. “But this cabinet would be short-lived,” she said.

The newspaper also commented that folk singer Slavi Trifonov’s populist party “There Is Such A People”, which defeated Borissov in the July 2021 elections, has now fallen out of favor with voters and has not won a single parliamentary seat.
