As in other municipalities, the financial situation in Lotzwil is currently tense.

At that time, the municipal council had calculated the budget for 2019 somewhat pessimistically: In Lotzwil, this provided for a deficit of 336,000 francs in the tax-financed and thus politically relevant general budget. Ultimately it was a black zero, the balance sheet surplus therefore remained at 3.7 million francs.
Significantly higher tax revenues were partly responsible for this. In the end, the bill also turned out to be positive in the overall budget (including special financing).
One sale makes the difference
The municipal council is cautiously optimistic about its budget for the coming year, although this is surprising at first glance given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its economic consequences. In the general budget, a minus of around 385,000 francs is expected, and in the overall budget (excluding municipal businesses) the deficit is expected to be slightly larger at 394,000 francs.
