“There is no evil” by Iranian director Mohammad Rasulov won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday.

The film, which was filmed secretly in defiance of Iranian government censorship, deals with the story of four people who were chosen to implement the death penalty, the moral dilemma that each of them was subjected to, and the implications of the challenge they and the people around them would show.

Rasulov was not allowed to leave the country to receive the award .. His daughter Paran, who is also represented in this film, received the award instead.

She said, “I am very confused and happy with this award, but at the same time I am sad because she is a director who could not be here tonight. Therefore, on behalf of the entire team, I say this to him. ”

Describing the film, Jeremy Irons, president of the jury, said it tells “four stories that show how a despotic regime is throwing its nets on ordinary citizens with the intention of dragging them towards brutality.”

He added that the film “asks questions about our responsibilities and our choices that we make in life.”

The drama (Never Rerley Simtimes Always) by Elisa Hetman won second place and the Silver Bear award. The film tells the story of two teenagers in the American countryside who challenge anti-abortion activists and also challenge poverty, psychological and mental harassment, and the high health-care costs of an abortion one needs. The South Korean director Hong Sangsu won the Silver Bear Award for Best Director for “The Woman Who ran” (The Woman Ho Ran) and deals with issues of friendship between women, loneliness and intrusive men.
