Stuttgart – “A big compliment to the filmmakers, that was 40 entertaining, highly emotional minutes with lots of interesting insights,” said Kickers veteran Ralf Vollmer about the film “A Dream in Blue”. The work of the Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Zeitung on the Kickers can now be viewed free of charge by everyone on the YouTube video platform.

For a year, editors from the multimedia reporting department accompanied the Stuttgarter Kickers in the 18/19 season. The aim was to accompany the traditional club at the lowest point in the club’s 120-year history on its return to the top. The film sheds light on the exceptional role of the kickers in the lowlands of the fifth division, gives insights into the private life of the players and takes up the question: Why do the vast majority of fans remain loyal to the Blues with so much passion?

And for a long time it looked good for the Kickers. The Degerloch team were at the top of the table for 18 game days – but in the end the men of former coach Tobias Flitsch ran out of breath. The consequence: Relegation – and how it ended in the end is painfully known to every Kickers fan.

The film premiered at the Delphi Arthaus cinema

A “dream in blue” became a “nightmare in blue” in Alzenau. Here, too, the filmmakers were on site and captured one of the bitterest moments in the long history of the Kickers’ club. In November 2019, the film premiered in the Delphi Arthaus cinema and delighted the audience. Now the work can finally be seen on the Youtube channel of the Stuttgarter Zeitung – free and free of charge.
