UEFA President Alexander Ceferin revealed the possibility of holding the Champions League and European League tournaments in a one-match system, starting from the quarter-finals again.
And the matches of the two championships, starting from the quarter-finals, to a knockout system, from one match on neutral soil, due to lack of time with the outbreak of the Corona virus.
The Champions League final will be held today, Sunday, in Lisbon, between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
Ceferin told Reuters: “We were compelled to do this but in the end we see that we discovered something new, so we will definitely think about it in the future.”
He continued, “There was not much planning, if one of the two teams scored a goal, the other should score as soon as possible, but in the home and away system there is still time to win the next match.”
“The matches are definitely more exciting but of course we also have to think about the fact that the number of matches is getting smaller, so we will have to discuss when this crazy situation ends,” he said.
Then he added, “If we play this system then we will play in one city, where you can spend a week of football or something like that, but it is too early to think about it.”
“We have seen great success in increasing the number of viewers on television, and it may also affect us in August with people at home, but it is an interesting tournament,” he said.
