Fighting coronavirus on the beach: discover the exclusive beach for people over 65 – Society

With the arrival of summer and the hottest days, there is also the desire to spend the days on the beach, now with new safety and prevention rules for the transmission of the new coronavirus, which have given the health and safety authorities some headaches. rulers. In Portugal, we opted for a system with ‘traffic lights’ that indicate the maximum capacity of a beach, but a Spanish town is giving a talk after having created its own beach to face the fight against the covid-19 pandemic, through protecting the most vulnerable to this disease: the elderly. Vejer de la Frontera, in Cadiz, has just announced an exclusive beach for those over 65 years old.

The municipality of Vejer de la Frontera has decided to reserve 150 meters of its coastline, which stretches for 4.6 kilometers, in order to welcome people over 65 or with reduced mobility on this beach, to minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission.

“We took a lot of measures and, seeing that people over 65 are high-risk patients, we chose to create their own area, so that they feel at maximum security. They are the most vulnerable and, therefore, we have to guarantee them security, “Manuel Flor, councilor of the City Council of Vejer de la Frontera, tells El País, recalling that the coast of Cádiz saw a flood of bathers two weeks ago security (and closure of some beaches).

The beach at El Palmar was therefore divided into 12 sectors to control access to the beach and limit the influx of bathers. Access to the sectors is made through corridors created for the purpose, which are supervised and controlled by employees hired for the purpose. Sector 3 is reserved for people over 65 years of age.

In this exclusive beach for those over 65, family members can also enter, but only as companions. “If we have an area whose entry is limited by age, we have to prove that we have more than that age by presenting a document,” says Anabel Sánchez, another councilor in Vejer de la Frontera.

In addition to the lifeguards, security guards and camera workers present, the assembled device also provides for drones to fly over the sand, in order to ensure maximum safety for the elderly who will frequent this beach.
