The new device is nothing for the cantonal police in Zurich, Bern, Solothurn and Aargau.

It looks like a ski helmet. A small camera is attached to the side. The visor is aimed at the people walking around. An infrared camera scans the people. This is how the body temperature is registered. If a person has a fever, a warning signal sounds.

The new smart helmet N901 from the Chinese company KC Wearable was developed for police officers, doctors and security personnel. With the slogan “Bring everyday life back”, the company wants to use helmets to be able to identify possible people with corona more quickly. The fever measurement helmet is already in use in Dubai, China and Italy.
–
However, the Swiss police show no interest: “Such helmets are not used by us and are not currently being tested for their suitability for use,” says BLICK when asked by the cantonal police in Aargau. The helmets also find no buyers in Bern, Lucerne, Solothurn and Zurich.

The perfect surveillance helmet
According to the company, the 115 gram helmet is equipped with an infrared thermal imaging camera. The carrier should therefore measure the temperature of people at a distance of two meters with a certainty of 96 percent. The accuracy is 0.3 degrees Celsius. According to KC Wearables CEO, Dr Jie Guo, the helmet manages to scan 13 people simultaneously and up to 200 in a minute.
–
And the N901 can do more than just measure fevers: you can use it to scan QR codes, recognize license plates, recognize faces thanks to facial recognition and perceive people in the dark.
–
Already in use in Italy
According to the company, 1,000 of the helmets are already in use in China. The main customers are police officers, nurses, security officers and some private individuals. The Italian Carabinieri and the police in Dubai also use the helmets. The Dutch government is currently testing the helmets, the company said.

Other international inquiries and orders are currently being processed, it is said.

Experts are skeptical
In Switzerland, the invention is still skeptical. The Bern cantonal police say, for example, that clarification as to whether someone is sick or not should only be carried out by the appropriate medical personnel and not by the police. “We are not planning any clarifications on the helmets,” said Dominik Jäggi, spokesman for the Bern cantonal police.
–
If anything, one would wait for instructions from the Federal Office of PublicHealth (BAG). But here, too, no one wants to know about the new helmets: “We are not aware of these helmets and we will therefore make no assessment of them,” said the BAG. The tried and tested method is used: «Distance and hygiene rules still apply in Switzerland in public spaces.»
