Fifth Winter Storm and Cold Front 32: Severe Weather Alert Issued by State Civil Protection Coordination

Given the approach of cold front 32 and the fifth winter storm that will cause a drop in temperature for Friday, the State Civil Protection Coordination issued a preventive alert given that strong winds, rain, snow and sleet are expected.

The State Coordination of Civil Protection reported that on the night of this Tuesday and the early morning of January 31, some showers with accumulated amounts of 10 to 15 millimeters are forecast for Janos, Casas Grandes, Madera and Ignacio Zaragoza.

In Ascension, New Great Houses, Galeana, Buenaventura, Gomez Farias, Namiquipa, Bachiniva, Temosachic, Matachi, Warrior, Moris, Ocampo, Uruachi, Chinese, Guazapares, Maguarichi, Bocoyna, Carichi, Nonoava, San Francisco de Borja, Belisario Dominguez, Satevo, Rosario, El Tule, Huejotitan, San Francisco del Oro, Santa Barbara, Parral and Zaragoza Valley the rains will be isolated to scattered.

While isolated rain is expected for Palomas, Urique, Batopilas, Guachochi, Guadalupe and Calvo, Balleza, Cusihuiriachi, Cuauhtemoc, Riva Palace, Chihuahua, Rosales, Matamoros, Coronado, Lopez and Jimenez.

The CEPC expects snow and sleet to fall in the afternoon of Wednesday the 31st in the upper parts of Janos, Madera, Creel, Guachochi and Balleza.

During Thursday, February 1, cold front number 32 will enter northwest Mexico, interacting with a polar trough and a subtropical jet stream, giving rise to the fifth winter storm.

Both systems will cause a marked drop in temperature starting Friday night and until next Sunday, February 4, when a cold to very cold environment is expected during the morning and night with freezing minimum temperatures that will range between -5° and – 10° degrees Celsius (°C) mainly in mountainous areas of the Sierra Tarahumara.

Meanwhile, the probability of snow or sleet will begin Thursday night in the mountainous areas of Janos, Madera, Creel, Guachochi and Balleza.

Next Friday the 2nd, winds of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour (km/h) are expected in Chihuahua, while very strong to intense gusts of wind, showers and heavy occasional rains are expected in Janos, Madera, Creel, Guachochi and Balleza; probability of snow or sleet starting Thursday night in Janos, Madera, Creel, Guachochi and Balleza, conditions that will last until the early hours of Sunday the 4th.
