The carnival started in Lucerne on Thursday at 5 a.m. with a bang in the dark. Thousands of masked people and musicians gathered at the lake basin for the colorful folk festival. A premiere is waiting for the Fasnachtler this year in Lucerne.
–
After the big bang in mild temperatures, the Fritschi family went ashore at the Schweizerhofquai, where the guild master and Fritschivater Daniel Medici and Fritischmutter Katharina were waiting. Accompanied by carnival and guugger sounds, the entourage marched through the masses to the chapel square. There, the sky above the Fritschi fountain made thousands of scraps of paper dance at the “Fötzeliregen” and whoever could, caught an orange in the crowd.

Fritschi parade from 2 p.m. at the lake basin
From this point on, there was hardly any way of getting through in the old town, the restaurants filled up as quickly as the coffee glasses emptied. Individual masks and groups, timeless subjects, and elaborate presentations that referred to current events passed through the alleys. For example, isolated face masks and protective suits could be seen.
–
The big Fritschi parade starts at 2 p.m. He officially counts 40 numbers. In between, there are also some wild numbers smuggled in between.

Monster Corso on Tuesday
An innovation and an addition to the prominent street carnival is on the agenda in Lucerne on Friday. With the “Värsli-Brönzlete”, the initiators want to reactivate the Beizenfasnacht. Ten groups appear in eight restaurants and use their sayings to take a satirical look at current events. The roughly 700 seats were sold out in no time.
–
The day watch of the Wey guild and the Wey parade follow on Güdis Monday. The Monster Corso will conclude on Tuesday evening. There will be around 100 carnival events in the canton of Lucerne by then.

Several thousand carnival guests pass through Solothurn
But Lucerne is not the only place where fools are kept: in Solothurn, too, the foolish days began with the traditional chesslete in the early morning. Thousands of fools dressed in white nightgowns with white pointed hats on their heads and red neckerchiefs ripped the city out of sleep with a lot of noise.
–
At five o’clock on command, several thousand carnival guests put their bells, puzzles and horns into operation and roared noisily through the old town and suburb of Solothurn. The motto of the Chesslete this year is “Jo saw ou”.

Celebrate until Ash Wednesday
The city of Solothurn is called Honolulu during the fifth season. The custom of the Chesslete, which has been known since 1888, is supposed to drive away winter – and ensure a good mood.
–
Furthermore, the start of the fifth season will be celebrated extensively on “Dirty Thursday” in other cantons in Central Switzerland, in Aargau, in St. Gallen, parts of Ticino and in Valais. By Ash Wednesday, the winter calm in the home countries of the Carnival is over. (SDA)
