“I have to shut up and ask for forgiveness, but I will not give up”

“When something does not go well, you should shut up and apologize,” thus began his last speech, the president of the electoral entity Julio Cesar Castaños Guzmán at the public hearing of the plenary of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) with the delegates of the political parties to discuss issues concerning the holding of extraordinary municipal elections on March 15.

“When you fail you must recognize it and ask for forgiveness and that is what it is, there was a failure. It is not to defend myself but what I was informed was that this problem of loading the ballot was something simple and that it was solved easily, well we realized that it was not so, ”said Castaños Guzmán.

He said that after the suspension of the municipal elections last Sunday, due to the problem of loading ballots presented in the automated voting teams, he has felt an infinite sadness, which he had never suffered before in his life.

They will incine ballots

After eight hours meeting with the representatives and delegates of the political parties, the full JCE announced that they will meet immediately to decide on the claims and suggestions they made during their interventions.

He informed that the ballots that were printed for the Municipal Elections will be cremated in the next few days. “So far I do not see any problem with the proposal that the ballots be incinerated and that those of March 15 be printed with a differentiating element from the previous ones,” said Castaños Guzmán.

Extend deadlines

He argued that the deadline for submitting requests for alliances or coalitions for the presidential and congressional elections was also extended until next Tuesday, the 25th of this month and that the Public Hearing for the knowledge of these would be March 2. Likewise, the term for the deposit of presidential and congressional candidacies was extended until March 10.

Castaños Guzmán said the plenary will meet to issue and decide all the proposals presented by the political parties during that public hearing.

Will not give up

The president of the JCE was emphatic in saying that the plenary will not renounce this situation and that the only way they get out of there before fulfilling their mandate is through a political trial.

Another member of the plenary who spoke was Roberto Saladín, who emphasized that neither he nor his companions will resign their positions in the institution in the middle of the electoral process.

He said that the country deserves that the current JCE concludes with the process that will take place this year and the person who disagrees is free to prosecute him.

Something big is coming

“What is coming is great,” thus ended his turn the president of the Christian Social Reform Party (PRSC), Federico Antún Batlle (Quique), referring to the situation that will be experienced in the extraordinary municipal elections on March 15.

“I warn you, what’s next is great. Hopefully, the OAS (Organization of American States) and Citizen Participation may have a representative in each polling station because what they will want to do in those votes is not easy, ”said Antún while taking his party’s turn at the public hearing.

“Here we all know or assume who did it,” said Antún while greeting José Ramón Fadul and Danilo Díaz, both delegates of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

Several opposition parties coincided with the words of Antún. Opponents in a document read by the delegate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Orlando Jorge Mera, pointed directly to the ruling party as responsible.
