FIFA has sent a letter to the 22 Arab federations to participate in the 2021 Arab Cup in Qatar.
And the transfer of the official account of the Arab Gulf Cup Federation to present FIFA’s speech, which said: “This event will have a prominent impact on competitive football at the highest levels in the region, and will bring together 22 teams on two continents that share the same cultures and values.”
Last month, the Qatar Football Association and FIFA announced their plans to organize an international championship for Arab teams in the Qatari capital, Doha, late next year, to be an important stop on the way to preparing for the next edition of the World Cup in Qatar, whose competitions begin on November 21, 2022.
During a videoconference meeting, Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and President of the World Cup, presented the tournament proposal to the members of the FIFA Council, who expressed support for organizing the proposed tournament.
The tournament will witness the competition of men’s soccer teams from 22 Arab countries from the continents of Africa and Asia, and its competitions will be held in dates that do not contradict the agenda of the International Federation of International Matches, and will provide an opportunity for the organizers to take advantage of the facilities and operations allocated to the World Cup competitions.
The tournament competitions will be held from the first to December 18, 2021, and the final match will be held exactly one year before the start of the first edition of the World Cup in the Arab world.
In addition to taking advantage of the stadiums and training pitches for the Qatar World Cup, the new Arab Championship is an important opportunity for the fans, players and officials of the participating teams to use the facilities of the host country for the next version of the World Cup, including transportation and accommodation facilities.
“It is undoubtedly a wonderful moment for us in Qatar and for football fans across the region and around the world,” said Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, president of the Qatar Football Association.
Al-Thani added, “Qatar will host the first edition of this tournament with the participation of 22 Arab teams competing in modern stadiums built by Qatar to host the World Cup, to represent a unique experience for players and fans to see some of what Qatar promises the world in 2022.”
He added: “The new championship is a very important station for our country and the region, and everyone who participates in its organization and an opportunity to gain important experiences on the road towards hosting the most prominent international event in the world of football on the soil of Qatar in the year 2022.”
For his part, said Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Projects and Legacy, and the President of the World Cup championship, “The new championship is an ideal opportunity within Qatar’s preparations to host the first edition of the World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.”
“Qatar hosted many events since its victory in the World Cup in 2010, but this tournament will be the largest in terms of the number of participating teams, and it will represent a wonderful opportunity to use the facilities and services of the World Cup before 2022,” Al-Thawadi explained.
Al-Thawadi noted: “The championship competitions will be held at the same times as the World Cup, which means that fans, players and officials of the participating teams will have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere expected in 2022.
He added, “The organization of this tournament confirms our firm commitment that the Qatar World Cup 2022 will benefit all countries of the Arab world, and will contribute to highlighting the region’s distinctiveness and passion for football.”
More details of the Arab teams participating in the tournament and the schedule of competitions will be announced later. The tournament will be organized by the World Cup team, with support from the Qatar Football Association, FIFA, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.
For his part, Nasser Al-Khater, CEO of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, stressed that the tournament will be a good rehearsal before the World Cup, adding, “The Arab World Cup in the World Cup is a clear message to the world. And to FIFA also to determine the readiness of Qatar to host.
