FIFA Announces U20 2023 World Cup Schedule in Indonesia

KOMPAS.comFIFA has announced the official schedule World Cup U20 2023 in Indonesia.

FIFA says the U20 World Cup will be kick-off on May 20 and will end on June 11, 2023.

Indeed, Indonesia has been named the host of the U20 World Cup in 2021.

However, FIFA announced the cancellation of the U20 World Cup as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The announcement was made by FIFA at the end of December 2020.

Not only Indonesia was affected by the pandemic, the 2021 U17 World Cup which took place in Peru was also cancelled.

Nevertheless, FIFA still gave the rights to hold the U20 and U17 World Cups to Indonesia and Peru, respectively.

Reporting from the official FIFA website, the schedule for the U20 World Cup has been determined after getting an agreement with PSSI.

FIFA has decided World Cup U20 2023 will roll from May 20 to June 11, 2023.

“After discussions with PSSI, as well as consultations with all confederations, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has confirmed that the tournament will be played from 20 May to 11 June 2023.” quoted from the official FIFA website.

As the host, Indonesia has prepared six stadiums in six different cities to hold matches.

The stadiums are Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (Jakarta), Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (Surabaya), and Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Gianyar, Bali).

The six potential venues for the U20 World Cup matches have been inspected by FIFA representatives who visited the country on 8-17 June 2022.
