From 8 to 14 August, there were an average of 532 infections per day in Belgium. That is a decrease of 14% compared to the previous week. In total there were 78,534 infections: only 211 more than the day before.

The trend is even more pronounced in the province of Antwerp. There, the average has been falling for seven days in a row. From 8 to 14 August there were an average of 140 infections per day, almost 33% less than a week earlier.

More hospital admissions and deaths
At the same time, the number of hospitalizations and deaths is on the rise. For the number of deaths in our country, this is about doubling, to an average of 8.6 per day. The virus has already caused 9,944 deaths in our country, 5 more than reported the day before.
In terms of hospital admissions, there is an increase of just under a quarter. Our country now has an average of 33 hospitalizations per day. On Monday, 339 Covid-19 patients were in Belgian hospitals, 3 more than the day before. 90 of them are in intensive care (+4), 48 of whom are on artificial respiration (-3).
