Fewer crimes in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, but not in the case of drug offenses – Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district

The Freiburg Police Headquarters reports a decline in break-ins and an increase in sexual offenses for the Upper Black Forest district. One city in the Markgräflerland is ahead in the statistics.

The Freiburg Police Headquarters reported almost ten percent fewer criminal offenses in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district for 2020. A total of 10,963 criminal offenses were registered. “We are very satisfied with this development,” said President Franz Semling. With the blasting of ATMs in the region, the police now have “promising evidence,” said detective chief Arno Englen, and for the first time publicly indicated a connection between the blasts.

Blasting ATMs

Löffingen, Titisee-Neustadt, Denzlingen, Schallstadt and Pfaffenweiler: ATMs were blown up in these places last summer. At the end of January there was an explosion in the Volksbank in Ihringen. “We’re on the ATM demolition series,” says Englen. He did not want to go into details for tactical reasons. “We are in good spirits that we can sort this out over the course of the summer,” said Englen.

Burglaries

In the case of burglaries in the district, there was a significant decrease of more than 60 percent from 268 burglaries to 109. If you look at the past five years, that is a low. Increased home office and increased vigilance contributed to the failure of many break-in attempts. Around 20 percent of apartment thefts were cleared up in the district. That is a slight improvement over the previous year. However, the clearance rate is below the national average (24 percent).

Sex offenses

There was a significant increase in sex offenses by 34 percent (from 139 to 187). “The spread of pornographic writings is primarily responsible for this increase,” says police chief Arno Englen. Last year, however, 18 people were raped in the district.

drug

An extra investigation group was set up in Müllheim to deal with drug crime and which was successful last year, as chief investigator Englen emphasized. He also praised the efforts made by the Titisee-Neustadt district in this regard. “If we look, we usually find something,” he said. This explains the increase in drug crime by ten percent in a circle.

Highest crime rate in Müllheim

Measured in terms of criminal offenses, Müllheim is clearly at the forefront with 1230 offenses. From Englen’s point of view, however, this could also be related to the increased investigative work in the narcotic area. Bad Krozingen is in second place (885 offenses), followed by Titisee-Neustadt (866), Breisach (820) and Neuenburg (776).
