Ferepa delivers work equipment to artisanal fishermen


Leaders of the Biobío Regional Federation of Artisanal Fishermen traveled to the commune of Coelemu (Ñuble Region), in order to donate valuable work equipment to the 64 members of the Union of Artisanal Fishermen, Shellfish Divers and Algueras de Caleta Perales.

During the instance, headed by the members of Ferepa and the president of the local union, José Eduardo Toledo Vergara, they gave themselves used for divers, special clothing for the protection of algueras, cords, leads, stoves, bottoms, nets, coleman and freezers, which will allow them to carry out their activity with greater safety and so that women can undertake, applying value added to the resources they extract.

“This initiative is part of the Public Private Table: Nueva Aldea – Ferepa Biobío, established on August 27, 2007 with the aim of protecting the marine environment and strengthening the productive character of artisanal fishing, improving -through the delivery of different equipment for fishing activity- the working conditions of fishermen, ensuring their source of employment. ”, They indicated via press release from Ferepa Biobío.

Likewise, from the union they indicated that this work table “has allowed positive dialogue between executives of Nueva Aldea, directors of Ferepa Biobio and artisanal fishermen, addressing the problems jointly. With the protection of the environment as a goal, the sustainability of the resources also includes scientific-technical support; in infrastructures, work teams that allow the fishing activity to be carried out with state-of-the-art equipment and that have benefited fishermen from coves in the Biobío and Ñuble Region over time ”.
