Fendi x FRGMT x Pokémon: Celebrating the Year of the Dragon with a Capsule Collection

This year, next February, China celebrates the arrival of the year of the Dragon, an opportunity that the Italian luxury fashion brand Fendi has taken advantage of to continue its series of collaborations called “Friends of Fendi”, in which creatives such as Donatella Versace or Stefano Pilati have put their very personal stamp on the DNA of the Roman fashion house Fendi, founded in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi.

Fendi and Hiroshi Fujiwara: A new chapter in the history of the “Friends of Fendi” project

Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara is one of the most recognized names in the fashion design scene. He is considered an elemental figure in the creation of streetwear aesthetics. Through his firm Fragment Design, he has participated in the creation of different collaborations for different fashion brands.

For this collaboration with the Italian house, Fujiwara has decided to do it in a skillful and fun way with the FENDI x FRGMT capsule collection and with the addition of Pokémon into the equation, as a celebration of the year of the Dragon.

FENDI x FRGMT x POKÉMON: A fun capsule collection of bags dedicated to celebration

Taking as a starting point the excellent relationship that Fujiwara has with the iconic Pokémon brand, the designer wanted to take the participation of his collaboration one step further, adding dragon-style Pokémon to the bags, and their unmistakable designs, in honor of the arrival of the Chinese New Year.

“I first met Hiroshi Fujiwara in London in 1999 and what can I say? He is one of my idols and an instigator of the Japanese club scene, youth fashion and streetwear,” said Kim Jones, the artistic director of Fendi’s women’s and couture collections.

“The shapes of our bags are a logo in themselves, they are very representative of the house. And although the workmanship is also an important part of our iconography, we have never wanted to be too fancy with either and we like to celebrate it in different ways. Hiroshi has added so much with FRGMT and Pokémon to our bags and has turned them into small monuments to the pop,” said Silvia Venturini Fendi, artistic director of Fendi women’s and accessories collections.

The collaboration with the appearance of characters such as Dragonite, Dragonair and Dratini, from the Pokémon universe, are not only present in bags but in a series of accessories such as earrings, rings and garments such as t-shirts, sweatshirts and silk pajamas.
