Fence, even a few seconds late was dangerous… The story of the first attack on the US Congress

On the 6th, US President Donald Trump’s actions before the invasion of the Congressional Party are slowly being revealed. The Washington Post (WP) reorganized the intrusion situation by time on the 15th (local time) and reported, “Even a few seconds later, Vice President Mike Pence’s evacuation was almost caught by protesters and was in danger.”

– According to reports, congressional police chief Stephen Sund received reports that protesters who arrived at the door of the Capitol at around 1:59 pm on the same day were about to push in. Thirteen minutes later, the protesters broke the window and entered the capitol.

It was one minute after Vice President Pence sensed the crisis and came out of the main hall. At that time, some of the demonstrators had already reached the vicinity of the plenary hall and were 30 meters from the evacuation site of Vice President Pence. This means that even if the evacuation was only a few seconds late, it was possible that Vice President Pence and the protesters had encountered it.

The WP evaluated that the protesters were angry at the time, shouting, “Hang the fence,” and said, “The top officials were clearly in danger.”

He said there were questions about why the 14-minute delay from the time the protesters started breaking the Capitol window to evacuating Vice President Pence and why the Secret Service did not move him earlier.

In this regard, it is reported that the prosecution’s documents submitted to the court included a statement that the protesters were trying to kidnap and assassinate Vice President Pence. However, the prosecution drew a line saying, “There is no direct evidence that there was an intention to kidnap or murder.”

“Three days ago, I was looking inside’Perfect Storm'”

– There were also suspicions that some of the congressional police guarding the US Capitol Building helped the protesters intrude. The protesters’ statement that “the parliamentary police helped (intrusive)” came out, followed by an internal report that warned of possible violence four days ago.

On the 3rd, the WP obtained a 12-page report made by the Congressional Police Intelligence Department and reported as such. The report stated that’thousands of supporters of the president could target the capitol itself on the 6th.’

– The intelligence ministry warned that “there was a call to bring weapons and gather close to the Capitol,” among extremist Trump supporters. “On the 6th, a’perfect storm of danger’ will form.” Whether the report was shared with other security authorities, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has not been confirmed.

One protester said in an FBI investigation that “a police officer I met after breaking into the parliament came to us, shakes hands, hugs us slightly and says,’This is your house now.'” The FBI put their statements in the complaint. However, the WP added that the police officer’s identity was not disclosed and that the accused was unverified.

The congressional police did not disclose their position regarding the prosecution. However, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Homeland Security launched an internal inspection on the incident. It is planned to investigate whether the relevant authorities were aware of the movement of the protesters in advance and how they responded.

Democratic Party “Some lawmakers help outside forces’capitol tour'”

– In the US Democratic Party, it was argued that some lawmakers arranged to intrude protesters. According to ABC, about 30 people, including Democrat Mickey Sheryl (New Jersey), argued that “a day before the incident, I witnessed a scene where some lawmakers led a number of outside forces at the Capitol Hill to conduct a’tour.

– They said in a letter to the Senate and House security offices and the congressional police, “It was a strange scene considering the situation where access to the Capitol was restricted due to the aftermath of Corona 19.” At the same time, he requested to investigate the connection between the intrusion and the lawmakers who conducted the tour. In the letter, the Democratic Party did not specify in the letter whether the members of the Republican Party who conducted the’Capitol Tour’ were a member of the Republican Party, or whether they knew in advance about the intrusion.

In this regard, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned at a press conference that “if it is revealed that some lawmakers helped the protesters, we will prosecute them.”
