Female Passenger Extorted Rp. 100 Million by Online Taxi Driver in Jakarta, Arrested and Facing 9 Years in Prison

A female passenger with the initials C became victim of extortion driver taxi online. The victim was extorted Rp. 100 million by the perpetrator, Michael Gomgom (30).

Michael was arrested at his rented house in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta on Thursday (28/3). Michael, who has been named as a suspect, blackmailed the victim using subterfuge strapped for wedding expenses.

The act of extortion carried out by Michael occurred last Monday (25/3) night. This case went viral after the victim shared the bad experience on his social media account.

1. Michael Online Taxi Driver Threatened 9 Years in Prison

Syahhduddi said that regarding the suspect Michael, his party charged him with multiple articles. Suspect threatened with a prison sentence of 9 years for extortion accompanied by threats.

“The perpetrator was charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code which carries a threat of 9 years in prison, and Article 365 of the Criminal Code also carries a threat of 9 years in prison, as well as Article 335 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code which carries a threat of 1 year in prison,” said Syahduddi.

2. Michael’s Motive for Blackmailing Passengers

Police reveal the motive of Michael Gomgom, the taxi driver online holding gun and blackmailing a female passenger. To the police, Michael confessed trapped because it costs money to get married.

“From the results of the investigation, the perpetrator’s main motive was to threaten because he was desperate to marry his girlfriend,” said West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner M Syahduddi at a press conference at his office, Monday (1/4).

Syahduddi said the suspect Michael and his girlfriend were going to get married in April 2024. However, he did not have the capital to get married so he was determined to blackmail the victim who was his passenger.

“So when in April the person concerned was going to get married and there was no money to get married, finally the person concerned took this action,” he said.
