FEMA financial aid for New York and New Jersey through the Ida crossing – Telemundo New York (47)

FEMA is extending the deadlines for New Jersey and New York residents to apply for disaster recovery funds in connection with the devastating passage of Ida in September.

For Garden State residents, FEMA will extend the term for residents of 12 counties.

The new deadline is January 5 and includes both the owner and the tenants.

In addition to that, the FEMA centers in Essex and Union counties will remain open.

For more information visit FEMA.org.

For New York residents, the deadline for applying for FEMA disaster assistance is now January 4.

Homeowners and renters with uninsured or underinsured property damage from Hurricane Ida now have until early next month to apply for disaster assistance.

In order to apply for assistance, residents must have been affected by the storms of the September 1-3 caused by Hurricane Ida and living in Bronx, Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens, Staten Island (Richmond County), Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, or Westchester counties.

January 4 is also the deadline to apply for a disaster loan from the US Small Business Administration..

Disaster assistance is not a substitute for insurance and cannot compensate for all losses caused by hurricane gone. Financial assistance is intended to meet basic needs and complement disaster recovery efforts.

Impacted residents are encouraged to submit insurance claims for damage to their homes, personal property, and vehicles before requesting assistance from FEMA.

To request FEMA assistance, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. (If you use Video Relay Service (VRS), Captioned Telephone Service, or others, provide FEMA with the number for that service. )

Helpline operators are available from 7 am to 11 pm daily, including assistance in Spanish. (Spanish speakers can press 2 for Spanish, or press 3 for an interpreter who speaks their language.)
