Berlinale is one of the largest and most prestigious film festivals in the world, the program is selected from several thousand applications. Mara Linina’s film Chuchi Chuchi has been selected for the festival competition Generation K plus, which includes short films for children.
Like a lullaby In the garden, the children of the bear are dead, also a five – minute film Squat squat tells of a family of bears, in which the big bears go during the day – to take care of berries and honey -, but the children of the bears stay at home with the sleeping sheep and work together. It is an imaginative message about a carefree, emotionally saturated childhood time next to the adult world – caring, love, mutual understanding, family, such very important universal values.
Director Māra Liniņa says: “Our folk songs have a strong cultural and historical heritage that gives special energy, in them we hear the sound of the Latvian language, the message encoded in the songs has allowed them to survive and sound from generation to generation through the centuries.”
In the studio Atom Art many children ‘s favorite animated films have already been made – a series of short films Cloths (since 2010), feature film Jacob, Mimmi and the talking dogs (2018), Us un Neguļa (2017) and others. Also a movie Squat squat, intended for the youngest viewers, continues to contribute to the quality of children ‘s cultural content.
Movies Squat squat The creative team consists of director Māra Liniņa, artist Ūna Laukmane, creative producer Edmunds Jansons, experienced animators Mārtiņš Dūmiņš and Kristīne Zvirbule. The images of the animation in wool have been carefully created by animator Līva Piterāne. Lullaby In the garden, the children of the bear are dead sung by opera singer Kristīne Zadovska and actor Andris Keišs. The composer of the film is Jēkabs Nīmanis, the sound director is Ģirts Bišs. Producers – Sabīne Andersone and Ieva Vaickovska.

The Berlin Film Festival will take place from 10 to 20 February. Screenings of films selected for the festival will take place from 10 to 16 February. Berlināli will reveal the drama of French director François Ozone Peter von Kant, played by Denny Menoshe, Isabella Ajani and Hannah Shigula. Tribute to French actress Isabella Ipera on 15 February – she will be presented with Golden bear for a lifetime investment. The winners of the festival will be announced on February 16. Industry measures (European film market, Berlinales co-production market, programs Berlinale Talents a World Cinema Fund) will take place virtually this time.
